McLean Block Party
Join the fun at McLean's Celebrate Summer Block Party from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. The free indoor-outdoor event will be held at the McLean Community Center, 1234 Ingleside Ave., and is for tots to teens. Vienna Citizen Award
The Greater Vienna Chamber of Commerce is accepting nominations from the commuity for the Business Person and Citizen of the Year Awards for 1990. Nomination forms are available at the Greater Vienna Chamber of Commerce, 281-1333. The deadline for nominations is Sept. 14.
Explorer for a Day
Seven- to 11-year-olds will enjoy exploring the Potomac palisades with park rangers at Eagle Rock Discovery Camp, a one-day outdoor experience being held every Thursday through Aug. 23. Cultural and natural history programs, games and arts and crafts will introduce young explorers to the Turkey Run area of the George Washington Parkway. The Alexandria Office on Women needs volunteers for the Parent Nurturing Program, which is designed to help family members communicate better with one another. Volunteers are asked to commit one evening a week for 15 weeks after training. The application deadline is Aug. 1. For more information call Claire Kanezo at 838-4911.
Trash Collection Relocation
Beginning Saturday, the City of Fairfax will close the Oak Street Saturday trash drop-off location. Refuse can be taken to the city hall parking lot. Brush, appliances, motor oil and hazardous household materials will not be accepted. For more information, call 385-7855.
The Vienna Parks and Recreation Department is accepting registrations for the Vienna Youth Volleyball League, for players age 15 to 21. League play begins Sept. 7. Games will be played at 4:30 p.m. Fridays at the Vienna Community Center, 120 Cherry St., S.E. The fee is $75 per team. includes equipment, officials and awards.
