At least five people were killed and six wounded in a series of shooting and stabbing incidents in the District since Saturday night, authorities reported. Three people were killed last night in separate incidents, and two men were shot fatally in two incidents Saturday night.
In one of last night's incidents, an unidentified man was stabbed at Dupont Circle about 7 p.m. during an argument, police said. He died at George Washington University Hospital about 2 1/2 hours later, a hospital spokesman said. Another man, also unidentified, who was stabbed in the same incident was in critical condition last night at the hospital, authorities said.
Police said a man was being questioned last night in connection with those stabbings.
In Sunday's second homicide, Charmel Williams, 21, was stabbed about 8:30 p.m. near her home in the 1200 block of Brentwood Road NE, police said.
Just before midnight an unidentified man was fatally shot in the 1400 block of Bangor Street SE.
Early this morning, a taxi driver was found shot in the 4600 block of 14th Place NW after what police said may have been an attempt to rob him.
Saturday, Curtis Pugh, 32, was shot at New Jersey Avenue and I Street NW about 10 p.m. He died in surgery at Howard University Hospital at 3:07 a.m., a hospital official said.
A shooting an hour later in the 1500 block of Ogden Street NW killed one man and injured two as they came out of a building. The two injured men were treated at Howard University Hospital.
About 2:45 a.m. yesterday, two men were shot on Stevens Road SE. One was seriously wounded and one was grazed.
