Health Care for the Elderly
State Sen. Edward M. Holland (D-Arlington) will be the featured speaker at the Arlington Steering Committee for Services to Older Persons at 9:30 a.m. tomorrow at the American Red Cross, Arlington County Chapter, 4333 Arlington Blvd.
Holland's presentation will focus on studies of health care in Virginia and the state's budget forecast.
The Arlington Steering Committee is a voluntary group of residents and professionals formed to find solutions to improve the life of older persons in the community.

Workshop on Sexual Assault
The Office on Women, a city agency in Alexandria, is offering a free workshop focusing on tips to help women avoid sexual assualt. It will be presented from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at 110 N. Royal St., Room 201, Alexandria.
Topics to be covered include the myths and realities of rape, avoidance and protection techniques, and a practice session of physical self-defense methods. Participants should wear loose, comfortable clothing. The workshop is free but space may be limited. To register, call 838-5030.
Volunteers, Groups Matched
Summer means time in the sun, long days and relaxation. But for a special group of people who work as volunteers, summer is the time to make a difference in the lives of others. Folks looking for an organization with which to volunteer can rely on the Voluntary Action Center, a nonprofit organization whose aim is to promote, support and increase volunteerism in the area.
The center can advise interested individuals of volunteer opportunities and match the desires and skills of the worker to the community's needs. The center offers an array of options including volunteer management assistance, support and training; workshops; and consultation and clearinghouse services.
