Leesburg Gets Set To Put On a Show

August Court Days, Leesburg's 14th annual summer street fair, takes place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday in the historic district. The fair re-creates the opening of Loudoun's judicial court in 1790. The event will include 100 artisans; a New Orleans marching jazz band; the Maryland Militia, demonstrating Revolutionary War-era military camp life and musketry; fife and drum corps; strolling musicians and street entertainment; a children's fair; cloggers; a theatrical reenactment play; an art and photo mart; and refreshments, sold all day. Piedmont Vineyards of Middleburg will sponsor the Middleburg Wine Festival from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. The Sterling Foundation's Seneca Ridge Recycling Center will be open Saturday at Seneca Ridge Middle School. The center accepts glass, some plastics, cardboard, aluminum cans and newspaper, but the foundation prefers that newspapers be taken to the recycling center at Park View High School. The Loudoun County Public Library Foundation will sponsor its third annual used book sale at the Douglass Community Center in Leesburg from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. The foundation, which raises money for library programs, expects that more than 15,000 books will be on sale. Most hardbacks will sell for 50 cents, and paperbacks will be 10 cents. In addition, antique books and collectibles will be available, and an all-day silent auction is planned for rare and old books. This year's sale also features an art exhibit by the Willowcroft Art Group. Proceeds from art sales will go to the American Cancer Society. Proceeds from book sales will go to the library foundation.
