The Cultural Arts Committee of the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce is seeking nominations for the ALEX awards. The awards are given in recognition of contributions by Alexandria's cultural arts organizations to the city. Anyone in the civic or business community may submit nominations in one of four categories: performing artist or organization, visual artist or organization, small businessperson or business organization, and businessperson or business organization that has given outstanding support to the cultural arts in Alexandria. Falls Church Photo Contest
Amateur photographers are invited to enter their color photographs of Falls Church people, places or events to the "Spirit of Falls Church" photo contest. The top 12 photos will be printed in the Falls Church annual report and calendar. All works will be exhibited in the City Art Gallery. Woodmont Weavers at Fair
The Woodmont Weavers are setting up shop at the Arlington County Fair today through Sunday. Handwoven tote bags, placemats, clothing and stuffed animals will be on sale at the fair in the Jefferson Community Center, 3501 S. Second St., Arlington. Arts Festival in Manassas

Nature Slide Show

Senior Artists Exhibit Works
The Alexandria Commission and the Friends of the Torpedo Factory Art Center are sponsoring "Young at Art," a juried exhibition by artists ages 60 to 85. Artist Displays Glass
"Architectural Art Glass," an exhibition of pieces by artist Ellen Kardell, is displayed through Sept. 15 at Thos. Moser Cabinetmakers, 601 S. Washington St., Alexandria. Kardell has created art glass for the Smithsonian Institution, churches, businesses and homes throughout the East Coast. Period-costumed guides will interpret the exhibit of "Loudoun Art," opening Saturday and continuing through Aug. 26. A historical collection of oil-painted portraits of prominent Loudoun County political and business leaders will be displayed in the courthouse in Leesburg.
