Training for National Archives Volunteers

Anyone interested in becoming a volunteer docent at the National Archives must submit an application for the next training class by Saturday.

The annual class, to be offered twice a week from Oct. 2 through Nov. 1., will be a comprehensive study of the unique holdings and exhibitions of the National Archives, on Pennsylvania Avenue between Seventh and Eighth streets NW.

Fifty hours of training will be offered over five weeks, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, followed by six weeks of on-the-job training.

Volunteers will be asked to make a commitment of 100 hours of service each year for two years leading tour groups and school classes through the Archives.

The Archives serves as the permanent repository for federal records of enduring value, including 4 billion documents, 91 million feet of film and 6 million photographs.
