4 Arlington Artists to Open Fall Season at Ellipse Gallery
The fall season opens Wednesday at the Gallery of the Ellipse with the presentation of work by Arlington artists Jerry Monteith, Lawley Paisley-Jones, Lynn Schmidt and Mel Watkin.
Each artist has been given a room in the gallery to create a site-specific exhibit.
The public is invited to the opening reception for the artists from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 19. The artists also will be featured in a gallery talk from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 25.

Co-Op Gallery Celebrates Anniversary
Columbia Pike Artist Studios, a 34-artist cooperative gallery, is celebrating its first anniversary with a gala open house from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

Autumn Landscape Painting Workshop
Capture the beauty of an autumn landscape in an outdoor oil/acrylic workshop with Maryland artist Bill Schmidt.
The class, sponsored by the Springfield Art Guild, will meet from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 13 at Great Falls, Va. The $45 fee covers a demonstration by the teacher, critiques as you paint and a final group critique.

Art Society Exhibit in McLean
An exhibition of works by 30 members of the Vienna Arts Society will be on display at the McLean Community Center through Oct. 26. The center is at 1437 Emerson Ave. The exhibition is on view from 2 to 6 p.m. weekdays, 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays or by appointment.
The society also is sponsoring the exhibit "Signs of Autumn" through Oct. 30 at the American Horticulture Society's River Farm headquarters, 7931 East Blvd., Alexandria. The show is on display from 8:30 to 5 p.m. weekdays and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays. Call 356-3048 or 768-5700.
Stained-Glass Demonstration, Exhibit
The Craft Gallery of Artisans United is presenting a special exhibition of glass art by members of the National Capital Stained Glass Guild from Sunday through Nov. 15.
From 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, the public is invited to an opening reception where artists will demonstrate stained-glass techniques. A "Behind the Scenes" display will feature individual approaches to the stained-glass process.
The gallery is at Annandale Community Park in the Fred M. Packard Center, 4022 Hummer Rd., Annandale. The gallery is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays. Call 642-0862.
Sculpture, Glass-Blowing Show
Take a studio tour and see a demonstration of Joan Danzinger's fantasy sculpture and Jerry Hovanec's glass-blowing on Oct. 20.
The tour begins at 9 a.m. at the Lee Arts Center, 5722 Lee Hwy., Arlington, and returns at 5 p.m.

Reston Photographers, Artists Meet
The Reston Photographic Society will meet Oct. 17 and the League of Reston Artists will meet Oct. 21.
