Tours at Oatlands Plantation

Oatlands Plantation will be open for Christmas tours from Saturday through Dec. 22, except Thanksgiving. Daytime tours run continuously from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Evening tours, on Saturdays only, begin at 6 p.m. and continue to 8:30 p.m. Daytime tours cost $5 per person and evening tours, which include refreshments, cost $6. The evening tours are conducted by candlelight and feature reenactments of life at Oatlands in the 19th century. Call 777-3174. Book Exchange for Younger Children The Sterling Public Library will celebrate Children's Book Week with a used-book exchange for children aged 2 to 12. Volunteers to Help Needy Families The Loudoun County Department of Social Services is looking for people to help needy families during the holiday season. The agency accepts all kinds of contributions, but is particularly interested in people who will "adopt a family," providing gifts and food directly to a needy family.
