The body of a 23-year-old woman who was the mother of two small children was found in her apartment in South Arlington late Friday, and police said they are investigating her death as a homicide.

The children, who were also found in the apartment were unhurt.

The woman was identified as Shannon Marie Weaver, of the 1400 block of South 28th Street.

Police did not disclose the cause of death. However, neighbors in her garden apartment complex said they understood that Weaver was found lying in blood in the living room of her top-floor apartment.

They said they believe she had been stabbed.

The neighbors described Weaver as a Navy communications specialist who came here recently from Georgia with her 18-month-old twin boys.

Police said Weaver's body was found between 8:30 and 9 p.m. Friday.

A friend of Weaver's discovered her body, neighbors said.

The neighbors said that Arlington police investigators remained on the scene until after 3 a.m. yesterday, and then returned in the daytime to spend hours interviewing residents of the apartment complex.

Authorities said the children were placed in the custody of Arlington County Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court.
