The ANC approved a request by the Friends of Mount Pleasant Library for a $250 grant to purchase children's books. ANC members also nominated retired D.C. Metropolitan Police officer Bonnie O'Neal to receive a human rights award from the local chapter of the United Nations Association of the USA for her work in multi-cultured Mount Pleasant. O'Neal is credited not only with helping to decrease crime in the area but with reaching out to the area's various ethnic groups.

ANC 3E will meet at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 20. at St. Mary's Church, 4125 Fessenden St. NW, for the following: Meet with a representative of the police department to discuss how the community can better work with police to prevent crime in the area.Discuss what the community should do about homeless people who gather near the Tenleytown Metro station on Wisconsin Avenue NW. Some residents want a gate installed to keep homeless people away from the station's entrance at night. Consider a citizens' petition to decrease development or building density in the area near the Tenleytown Metro station.Discuss a bill proposed by District Council Chairman David Clark that would eliminate the veto power residents have over new liquor license applications in their neighborhoods. Currently, a majority of voters living within 600 feet of an applicant's businesss can prevent a new license by signing a petition. Clark's bill would require that the D.C. Alcoholic Beverage Control Board make the final decision after holding a public hearing.
