A car believed to have been used by two men in the attempted abduction of an 11-year-old girl last month was observed this week near the same area of Rockville, Montgomery County police said.

Investigator Jayne Bowers said five boys at a playground near Tilden Lane and Old Stage Road saw two men Wednesday sitting in a car fitting the description of the car used in the attempted abduction. Police were notified by the boys' parents, but the men had left by the time authorities arrived, Bowers said.

On Dec. 18, two men tried to abduct a girl about 4 p.m. while she was walking in the 11500 block of Danville Drive, Bowers said. One of the men forced the girl into the back seat of a car, but the girl kicked her attacker and ran away, Bowers said.

Bowers said the December incident occurred about four blocks from where the men were seen Wednesday. She said the boys, ages 10 to 13, thought the car fit the description given by an elementary school principal in a letter to parents after the attempted abduction.

Authorities are offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the suspects. The men were last seen driving a rusty, olive green 1971 Chevrolet Nova with a loud exhaust system.
