Audra Poulin and Jenny Potter each scored three goals and Caitlin Curtis, Amy Salomon and Alison West played good defense as the Bethesda Falcons won the U-16 girls Maryland State Cup with an 11-0 victory over the Baltimore Force on Saturday.
Jenna Linden scored two goals and Christi Bird, Stephanie Sybert and Allison Dooley each added one. Beth Hendricks, Tara Quinn, Jennifer Fields, Susannah Empson and Tanya Hahnel controlled the midfield and Anna Halse-Strumberg and Kerry York each played well in goal.
The Falcons, who will travel to Rhode Island next month to compete in the U.S. Youth Soccer Association Eastern Regional Championships, have won seven straight state titles, a Maryland record.
Coach Richie Burke's team was one of six state champions from the Bethesda Soccer Club. Longtime coach Birandra Sinha won his first title as the Arsenal beat the Baltimore Young Guns, 2-1, on penalty kicks in the U-14 boys final and Brad Roos won his 15th crown as the Fury downed the Bowie Magic, 6-0, in the U-15 girls final.
The Scorpions won the U-17 girls title with a 3-1 victory over the Baltimore Pride, the Dragons took the U-14 girls division with a 3-0 win over the SAC Lady Greyhounds and the Excel defeated the Baltimore Finesse, 2-1, in the U-12 girls final.
Bethesda also had two runners-up in the U-19 Strikers and U-18 Alliance, which lost on penalty kicks.
Bethesda Soccer Club is a select club with nearly 40 boys and girls teams. Boys teams play in the National Capital Soccer League (NCSL) and girls teams compete in the Washington Area Girls Soccer League (WAGS). Several U-9 and U-10 teams play in the Olney Bethesda Soccer League (OBSL).
