Outpatient Centers

Holy Cross Health and Adventist HealthCare will jointly acquire four community-based cancer treatment centers in the Maryland suburbs, giving their patients more options for outpatient radiation treatment.

The companies, based in Silver Spring and Rockville, respectively, formed the nonprofit Maryland Regional Cancer Care LLC, which will take over the College Park, Silver Spring, Rockville and Waldorf centers in mid-July. Three of the centers now are operated by PhyMatrix Corp., and the fourth is owned by a Holy Cross Health nonprofit.

Collectively, the centers are predicted to serve 200 patients a day.

Applicants must have owned their business for at least one year, but not more than three. In addition, they must be the sole owner or majority partner or shareholder, and must be actively involved in the daily decision-making and management of the business.

Applications must be submitted by July 31, and the WBO Grant Committee will review applications, interview applicants and select and notify the grant recipient during the summer. For grant applications and guidelines, call 800-926-6720.

Schools Partnership

Career Connections and Prince George's County public schools have announced a summer partnership between area businesses and educators. The "externship" program will pair educators with businesses, allowing teachers to gain 40 hours of work experience completing specific assignments, sampling jobs or shadowing a workplace mentor. The goal of the externship experience is to provide work assignments that expose the educator to the scope of the organization. Educators will in turn use what they learn to develop lessons for their students that reflect actual workplace practices. For more information, call Pam Sikowitz at 301-856-4550, Ext. 203.
