NOVA Employee Wins Fellowship

Linda Sheridan, a Sterling resident and Northern Virginia Community College employee, was awarded the colleges's 1999-2000 Chancellor's Fellowship.

Sheridan, who works as an office services specialist in the natural and applied sciences division at NOVA's Loudoun campus, was one of two employees to win the $3,200 award for tuition and books at any college. She also will receive a one-year sabbatical at half pay. The fellowship is awarded to classified employees--those who are not faculty members.

Sheridan has worked at the college since 1988. In addition to her job overseeing her department's World Wide Web development project, she is working on a master's degree in counseling at Virginia Tech in Falls Church. She would like to become an academic adviser and work with students with learning disabilities and emotional challenges.

To qualify for the award, Sheridan submitted an application that included an essay on how she would help contribute to the school's mission.
