Nineteen local athletes have been selected to participate in the Virginia High School Coaches Association all-star games July 12 to 15 in the Hampton area.
Eight Prince William area football players were chosen to the West team -- running back Daniel Davis (Brooke Point), wide receivers Boyd Ouden (Hylton) and Ed Simms (Potomac), offensive linemen David Stevenson (Hylton) and Jim Mayberry (Potomac), linebacker Elmer Holmes (Osbourn) and defensive backs Gary Day (Gar-Field) and Mark Cole (North Stafford).
Bill Brown (Hylton) and Jerry Williams (Hylton assistant) will coach in the game, set for 7:30 p.m. July 15 at Darling Stadium in Hampton.
In basketball, guard Sherman Rivers (Potomac) will play for the West boys team and center Orion Wake (Woodbridge) will play for the West girls team. The basketball all-star games are July 12 at the Hampton Coliseum, with the girls playing at 6:30 p.m. and the boys playing at 8:30 p.m.
There is one area representative each on the West baseball and softball teams -- shortstop Jose Pabon (Potomac) and catcher Payton Nash (Gar-Field). Bill Teel (Brentsville) is a coach for the East softball team.
The softball game is at 2 p.m. July 14 at War Memorial Stadium in Hampton and the baseball game is at 7:30 p.m. July 14 at Nansemond River High School in Suffolk.
Three area players earned spots on the West girls soccer team -- defender Pamela Kent (Woodbridge) and midfielders Rigel Lockett (North Stafford) and Margie Beyer (Hylton).
Forward Chris Einsmann (Gar-Field), defender Robb Jankura (Woodbridge) and forward Paul Stepanick (Woodbridge) will play for the West boys soccer team, for which Rudy Zimmerman (Gar-Field) is a coach. Midfielder Armando Corrales (Brentsville) will play for the East, a team that Chip Rohr (Brentsville) will help coach.
The soccer games are July 13 at Darling Stadium, with the girls playing at 6 p.m. and the boys playing at 8 p.m.
