Highlights: Swims competitively for Smallwood Village in the Prince-Mont Swim League. Selected All-Extra for her play at sweeper for the La Plata girls soccer team last fall and ran outdoor track for the Warriors. Cooksey also was a member of the Waldorf Piranhas, who this season captured the Division I Washington Area Girls Soccer League championship in the 16-and-under age division.

Notable: Cooksey, swimming in the girls 15-18 age bracket, took first place in the 50 butterfly and 100 freestyle races June 26 at Smallwood Village. Her two wins helped the team to a close 270-261 win over Adelphi. Cooksey captured the 50 butterfly in a time of 35.72 seconds and won the 100 free in 1:09.44

Personal: An avid soccer fan, Cooksey made it to her first women's professional soccer games this past week at Jack Kent Cooke Stadium, including the U.S. win over Germany in the quarterfinals.

Sport: Powerlifting

Highlights: Tsourounis has competed in -- and won -- two state and five national meets since he began powerlifting. He won the 18/19-year-old Teenage Amateur Championship June 24-26 at the International Powerlifting Association World Championships in York, Pa. He also was awarded the Outstanding Teenage Lifter Trophy.

Notable: Tsourounis, who competed at 242 pounds last year, moved up to the 275-pound class this year. He squated 600 pounds, an IPA record, shattering the old mark by 125 pounds. Tsourounis also bench-pressed 370 pounds and deadlifted 565 pounds, another record. His total of 1,535 pounds (a combination of all three lifts) broke the previous record of 1,396 pounds.

Personal: Tsourounis is a sophomore honor student at Salisbury State University, where he majors in biology. In addition to powerlifting, he is a member of the university's cheerleading squad.
