A Clinton woman was killed yesterday when a rented personal water craft operated by her husband collided with a boat off Ocean City, Md., Natural Resources Police said yesterday.

Eleanor Overton, 37, was a passenger on the craft driven by her husband, Carl, 36. The Overtons, of the 8600 block of Canberra Drive, were traveling east about 6:15 p.m. in Isle of Wight Bay when the rented craft was struck by the bow of a 19-foot boat operated by Shane M. Eisenhart, 37, of Hanover, Pa., police said.

Eisenhart's boat was carrying his wife and another couple. After the accident, an unidentified person from the boat jumped in the water to try to rescue the Overtons.

Eleanor Overton was pulled aboard the boat, where she was given cardiopulmonary resuscitation, police said. Carl Overton suffered minor injuries.

The operator of a nearby boat called rescue personnel. Eleanor Overton was pronounced dead shortly after arrival at a hospital. The cause of death has not been determined, said Susan O'Brien, a spokeswoman for Natural Resources Police.

Both operators were given routine blood alcohol tests, and both passed field sobriety tests, O'Brien said. The speed of the boats has not been determined. No charges had been filed last night, and the cause of the accident is still under investigation.
