Birkby House Open for Business The newly renovated Thomas Birkby House on Loudoun Street in Leesburg's historic district has opened and is taking reservations for weddings, company meetings and other special events.

The Birkby House has six rooms and has been rewired to handle several computers and connections to the Internet. The carriage house, the residence and the gardens all are available for use.

Bank Opens Ashburn Office

Middleburg Bank has hired Cascades resident Denise Dixon-Basil as branch manager of its new office in Ashburn, the bank's fifth location in Loudoun County.

The full-service branch is in Professional Plaza at Ashburn Farm and Claiborne parkways. It was built to serve Ashburn Farm, Ashburn Village and surrounding communities.

According to the bank, the Ashburn branch is intended to boost the bank's presence in the fast-growing eastern part of the county.

Middleburg Bank is a wholly owned subsidiary of Independent Community Bankshare Inc., which also owns Richmond-based Tredegar Trust Co.

Seminar on Procurement

The Loudoun County Purchasing Office will hold a buyer and seller information session Wednesday at 3 p.m. at the County Government Center on Harrison Street in Leesburg.

Aimed at area businesses, the seminar will offer insight into the county's procurement process.

The free session is open to all vendors, who will be able to ask questions about upcoming contracts or any topics related to procurement.

Day-Care Center Startups

The Loudoun Cooperative Extension and Loudoun County Department of Social Services will hold a seminar for anyone interested in starting a home-based child-care center.

The seminar will be held July 27 from 6:30 to 9:45 p.m. at Rust Library in Leesburg. Topics will include zoning regulations, advertising, how to set up a day-care environment, activity planning, contracts and nutrition.
