Camp Offered for Children With Asthma
The American Lung Association of Northern Virginia is offering a one-day camp for children ages 8 to 13 who have asthma. Camp Superkids is provided to children who do not usually attend summer camp because of the lack of medical or professional supervision for the care of their asthma.
Children will participate in activities such as arts and crafts and group games, as well as hands-on educational activities related to asthma. Medical professionals will be on hand in case of an emergency.
The camp takes place Aug. 7 at the Fairfax campus of George Mason University. The cost is $10. For information or to register, call 703-591-4131.
Ideas Sought for Jamestown's 400th
Although the 400th anniversary of the founding of Jamestown is still eight years away, the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation is asking the community to help plan the festivities. The foundation has set up an Internet site that invites people to suggest a theme and title and offer ideas for programs, events, marketing and funding. People also are invited to sign up for volunteer opportunities with the Association for the Preservation of Virginia Antiquities, Colonial National Historical Park and the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation.
The three organizations are involved with maintaining and researching the original site of Jamestown and interpreting the history of the European, Powhatan Indian and African cultures that converged in Virginia in the 17th century.
Jamestown, America's first permanent English settlement, was founded in 1607. The Web site is www.jamestown 2007.org. For more information, call 888-593-4682.
