Job Center Opens

Mainstream Inc., a national nonprofit that provides job placement services to people with disabilities, recently opened a Hyattsville office to serve residents of Prince George's County. The satellite office, at 4316 Farragut St., is open 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 5 p.m. Wednesdays. It is funded by the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development's Neighborhood Partnership Program.

Job seekers at the office will work on a one-on-one basis with specialists who will provide free tips on interview techniques, resume and cover letter writing, information on the Americans with Disabilities Act and other job search information. Participants will have access to Mainstream's Career Resource Center, which provides computers with Internet access, telephones, a fax and a copy machine.

Computer training also is available to a limited number of participants, who will receive a free computer upon completion of the training.

Mainstream, which was founded in 1975, works with the disability, employer and service-provider communities to create greater employment opportunities for people with disabilities. The company also operates an office with similar services in Takoma Park. For more information, call David Pichette at 301-891-8777.
