Class: Junior in the fall

Sport: Soccer

Highlights: The forward/halfback/goalie led the Rams with 19 goals last fall, earning her a spot on the 1998 All-Southern Maryland Athletic Conference first team and the All-Extra team. Helped the Washington Area Girls Soccer Piranhas win the Division 1 championship in the spring.

Notable: Currently at the State Soccer Camp at the University of Massachusetts. She has been a part of the state's Olympic Development Program since 1997, and was one of 20 Maryland girls chosen to attend the ODP's regional tournament at Rider University in New Jersey in June. Also participating in a Prince George's County summer basketball league with other McDonough varsity players.

Personal: Received her Red Cross lifeguard/CPR certification in May, and is working for Charles County Community College as a junior youth camp counselor and as an evening lifeguard.

MATTHEW ZUIDERHOF

McDONOUGH

Class: 1999 Graduate

Sport: Swimming

Highlights: Named Maryland swimmer of the year in 1998 (short course and long course) and 1996 (as a 14-year-old). Made junior national cuts and was state and zone champion, receiving numerous awards while swimming with the Chesapeake Bay Aquatic Club team and the USS Club swim team. Last summer, as a member of the aquatic club, he set a 100-meter freestyle zone record, was crowned 100 and 200 freestyle champion, 100 fly champion and was the 50 freestyle runner-up.

Notable: Will continue swimming at the University of Wisconsin-Madison on an athletic scholarship. His top events are the freestyle and the butterfly.

Personal: Boasted a 4.357 grade-point average and ranked third in his class of 300. He is likely to study some combination of biochemistry, pre-med and computer science at Wisconsin. His sister, Noreen, went to Salisbury State University and was named the swim team's MVP in 1995.
