Highlights: The Owings-area resident placed seventh at the USA Wrestling Cadet National Freestyle Championships July 24 in Fargo, N.D. Wrestling at 143 pounds in a class with 107 wrestlers, he became only the second Southern Maryland freestyle wrestler in the history of this largest age group event to win all-American status. The first was Gabrielson's older brother, Jason, in 1994.

Notable: Gabrielson transferred to DeMatha from Northern High School after his freshman year. As a sophomore, the 135-pounder was named first-team All-Met after going 45-6. He placed first at the WCAC and the Capitol Challenge, second at the Maryland Independent and St. Albans meets, and third at National Preps.

Personal: His father, Bruce Gabrielson, was a wrestler at Cal State-Long Beach during the 1960s and currently is head of the Southern Maryland Wrestling Club.

Highlights: Played at No. 1 girls doubles for the Warriors and qualified for the region meet with doubles partner Beth Castner as a freshman, then became the team's top girls singles player last spring.

Notable: Barnas started attending a tennis camp in Salisbury on July 24.

Personal: Tennis runs in her family. Her father, Ken Barnas, has been a fixture in local, state and regional tennis for over two decades. Brother Daniel just won his first USTA-sanctioned tournament in Washington.
