Festivities at Dulles Town Center
The 1.2-million-square-foot Dulles Town Center, Loudoun's first regional mall, will open at 10 a.m. next Thursday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, and festivities will continue throughout the following weekend.
From 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Aug 13, Jr. Cline and the Recliners will give an outdoor concert. During the weekend, there will be appearances by celebrity sports figures, including Roy Lassiter and Geoff Aunger, of the D.C. United soccer team, and Olympic figure skater Michael Weiss.
A Northern Virginia community parade is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, with Weiss leading local high school marching bands, merchants and other community groups. Sunday has been designated family fun day.
About half of the mall's 110 stores have opened, with most of the remaining stores scheduled to open this weekend.

Chamber Seminar on Trade Shows
The Loudoun County Chamber of Commerce's monthly Food for Thought seminar will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at Eastern Loudoun Regional Library in Sterling. This month's topic is how to use trade shows to make sales. Guest speakers will focus on the Dulles Connection Expo in October at Dulles Town Center. The seminar is free for chamber members, $5 for nonmembers.
The home business forum will take place that evening at the Holiday Inn Mansion House in Leesburg. Dinner will start at 6, followed by a seminar on office organization from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The event is free.
From 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. next Thursday, the chamber will hold a networking breakfast at the Holiday Inn Washington Dulles. The cost is $12 for members, $15 for nonmembers.
The chamber will hold an after-hours mixer from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Aug. 18 at the Leesburg Corner Premium Outlets mall. It is $5 for members, $10 for nonmembers.

United Way Fall Campaign
The Loudoun United Way will begin its fall fund-raising campaign for local charities at 8 a.m. Sept. 17 on the Town Green on Market Street in Leesburg. Local United Way volunteers have been visiting area companies to gather support for the campaign in the form of employee payroll deduction programs.
Keith W. Meurlin, general manager of Dulles International Airport, is the 1999 Loudoun campaign chairman. The volunteer effort is being led by Randy Collins, executive director of the Loudoun County Chamber of Commerce, Middleburg Bank Chairman Joseph Boling and others.
