Class: 1999 graduate
Highlights: An all-SMAC performer his senior year at Westlake, Vereb played both offensive and defensive line for the four-time defending league champions. Totaled 57 tackles, 3 sacks, 3 blocked passes and 1 fumble recovery last season.
Notable: Accepted a partial academic (3.4 grade point average) and athletic scholarship to Jacksonville (Fla.) University. The Dolphins, 4-5 in 1998, are entering just their second season of Division I play. Vereb (6-5, 280) looks to contribute to the offensive line immediately.
Personal: A four-year member of the Wolverines' jazz band (he played bass guitar), Vereb also wrestled and ran track before his senior year, when he decided to focus on football. Has been working with a weightlifting and cardiovascular program designed by Jacksonville's coaches since March in preparation for practice. Vereb heads south Aug. 12.
Class: Senior in the fall
Highlights: Twice named Thomas Stone's female athlete of the year, Clark excels in basketball and track and field. She reached the 1,000-point scoring plateau last season (while averaging 19.8 points a game) en route to all-SMAC and All-Extra honors. Was also a state qualifier in the high jump and triple jump.
Notable: Averaged a team-high 17 points and 12 rebounds per game this summer for the Cougars' team, champions of the Prince George's County summer basketball league. Earned co-MVP honors alongside teammate Necka Lancaster in the title game for her game-high 28 points.
Personal: Clark will serve as the senior class treasurer at Thomas Stone this year. She also has been named commander of the school's junior ROTC program and is a member of the National Honor Society with an overall grade point average of 4.357. She ranks fifth academically in her class of 331 students.
