The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission announces the availability of the historic property known as Hazelwood for historic curatorship/lease. Hazelwood, at 18611 Queen Anne Rd. in Patuxent River Park in Upper Marlboro, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is the first property to be offered by the Prince George's County Department of Parks and Recreation, M-NCPPC Historic Curatorship Program. The new program promotes public and private investment in endangered public properties.
The Curatorship Program is modeled after a similar program elsewhere in Maryland. Successful examples of curatorship properties include the Quarry Master's Residence at Seneca State Park and Black Walnut Point at Tilghman Island, as well as the Maughlin House in Boyds and the Washington Ryan House in Wheaton Regional Park.
Hazelwood overlooks the site of the former colonial port town of Queen Anne and is the former home of Revolutionary War veteran Maj. Thomas Lancaster Lansdale. All parties interested in this project are invited to a meeting from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 28. Interested parties should call 301-454-1466.
