Emily Reynolds and Jordan Zarin set league records and Sean Stewart and Nilasha Ghosh each won three events at the Montgomery County Swim League's 42nd Individual All-Star Meet Aug. 1 at the Rockville Municipal Swim Center.

Reynolds, who competes for Division L Hillandale, swam a 22.04 in the 8-and-under girls 25-meter breaststroke, breaking the mark of 22.09 set by Susan Kim of New Mark Commons in 1997. Hillandale Coach Andy Pulliam said he was not sure if Reynolds could break the record after missing the divisional championships July 24 with the flu. But after watching her perform at the MCSL All-Star Relays on July 31, he knew she had a shot.

"Emily does not have a real quick stroke," said Pulliam, whose team placed second in the division. "She has a really powerful stroke. She has really long legs and that gives her a strong kick.

"There's no telling how good she can be. She's the fastest 8-and-under girl ever in that event and she doesn't even swim year round. She could be very, very good."

Zarin, who competes for Division E Manor Woods, swam a 32.63 in the 11-12 girls 50-meter backstroke, breaking the mark of 32.75 set by Merrimack Park's Lisa Whyte in 1993. Zarin, 12, also won the 50-meter butterfly in 31.77 and took the 100-meter individual medley in 1:12.42.

Stewart, who competes for Division M New Mark Commons, won the 8-and-under boys 25-meter freestyle (15.75), backstroke (18.62) and butterfly (17.08). Ghosh, 10, of Division E Flower Hill won the 9-10 girls 25-meter breaststroke (18.82) and butterfly (15.67) and the 50-meter freestyle (31.58).

"Aside from being a terribly gifted swimmer and athlete, Nilasha trains year round with Curl-Burke [Swim Club] which helps build stamina and endurance," said Flower Hill Coach Amy Vermillion. "She's very fast in the free, but her technique is better in the fly. She has good rhythm, good pull and good strength, which you don't find a lot in 10-and-under swimmers."

Five other swimmers won at least two events at the all-star meet. Jonathan Pool, 10, of Division D North Creek won the 9-10 boys 50-meter breaststroke (18.71) and butterfly (16.10); Joey Mechak, 12, of Division A Flower Valley took the 11-12 boys 50-meter freestyle (28.28) and 100-meter individual medley (1:12.24) and Ian Mackinnon, 14, of Division B Daleview won the 13-14 boys 50-meter backstroke (29.61) and butterfly (28.91).

Joe Kaminsky, 18, of Division F Quail Valley won the 15-18 boys 50-meter butterfly (26.93) and 100-meter individual medley (1:02.08) and Anne Lincoln, 17, of Division G Glenwood took the 15-18 girls 100-meter freestyle (1:00.16) and individual medley (1:09.45).

The closest race of the day was the 15-18 boys 100-meter backstroke where Julio Zarate of Division A Upper County edged David Peck of Division A Quince Orchard by .01 seconds. Debbie Scibek of Division C Rockville beat Hannah Madej of Division K Northgate by .04 seconds in the 11-12 girls 50-meter breaststroke and Daniel Mengering of Division D Old Georgetown edged Mechak by .05 seconds in the 11-12 boys 50-meter butterfly.
