Tax Payments on the Internet

Just in time for the Sept. 15 business tax deadline and the Oct. 5 real estate and personal property tax deadline, the Arlington County treasurer's office now is accepting payments over the Internet.

For a fee of 2 to 3 percent of the tax total, taxpayers may use their Visa, Mastercard, American Express or Discover cards after logging on to the Web site, www.co.arlington.va.us/treas/ and selecting payment methods. Taxpayers who wish to pay by credit card but do not want to use the Internet can call 888-272-9829. The user fee still applies.

Falls Church Recycling Event

The City of Falls Church will host a household reuse/recycling event Sept. 11 and 12. Items such as clothing, shoes and household textiles will be accepted for donation.

Items should be placed in plastic bags for drop-off. Special pre-printed bags are available at City Hall in the Public Works Division (300 Park Ave.), the Mary Riley Styles Library (120 N. Virginia Ave.) and the Falls Church Community Center (223 Little Falls St.).

Collected materials will be sold to a textile recycling company that sends most items overseas for reuse. Materials that cannot be used will be recycled into carpet backing, car seat and dashboard stuffing, and other products.

Items can be dropped off from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. both days at the Falls Church Recycling Center, 217 Gordon Road. For information, call 703-248-5176.
