Starring: C Randy Ogle, DE Dave Stover, QB Dan Terracciano

Directed By: Duane Atherton (second season)

WHAT'S THE PLOT? The Patriots hope Terracciano and an experienced offensive line will pick up right where they left off.

Picking up steam in the homestretch, Northern won four of its last five games in 1998 and enters this season expecting to be competitive in every game. It would be unrealistic, however, to expect the Patriots to win all of them. That's because they are lacking a key ingredient: experience. Despite having more than 20 seniors on the roster, Northern returns just five players who started a year ago. The best of the bunch is Terracciano (6-3, 205), a powerful and versatile quarterback who split time last year with 1999 graduate Willie Swindell. Terracciano has three offensive lineman back from last season, including center Ogle (6-1, 230), senior tackle Kevin Hall (6-0, 215) and senior guard Pat Hagner (6-0, 215). Both Hall and Hagner lined up on the right side last season, but may be separated this year for a more balanced front. Senior Albert Rice, who played as a sophomore but was not out for the team a year ago, most likely will line up behind Terracciano at the fullback position. Rice is described by Atherton as one the team's most athletic players. Seniors Stover and Daunte Hurley are vying to fill the hole at tailback. Stover (6-1, 200) started last season at defensive end and is a strong, punishing runner it usually takes two or more players to bring down. Hurley brings a more elusive style to the field. Stover again will play defensive end for the Patriots, where he will be joined by Hall, a standout at linebacker, and senior defensive back Hank Long (5-10, 170).
