Lance W. Billingsley, of Hyattsville, a longtime politically active lawyer in Prince George's, was appointed to the University of Maryland Alumni Association Board of Governors. He graduated from the university with a degree in economics in 1961 and is the former chairman of the University System of Maryland Board of Regents. He also will serve as a member of the alumni center, which deals with matters pertaining to the design and construction of the Samuel Riggs IV Alumni Center.
Marietta A. Plank, executive director of the Chesapeake Information and Research Library Alliance based at the University of Maryland at College Park, was the keynote speaker Friday at the 75th annual meeting of the Potomac Technical Processing Librarians at Western Maryland College. The Potomac group is a professional organization for technical services librarians in Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia. Plank's topic was "Technical Services Librarians: the Training We Need, the Issues We Face." At the same meeting, Heidi Hanson, head of catalogue management at the University of Maryland Libraries, was elected chairwoman of the executive committee, and Marlene Vikor, U-Md. systems training librarian, was chosen Maryland regional representative.
