15 Charged in Drug Probe
A year-long undercover investigation of alleged drug activity in the tiny Fauquier County community of Turnbull has resulted in 15 arrests on state and federal drug possession and distribution charges, authorities said yesterday.
The charges were brought by the Fauquier County sheriff's department and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, authorities said.
According to Sheriff Joseph A. Higgs Jr., two dilapidated houses in a rural part of the county had been used as a drug market.
Last week, 60 law enforcement officers raided the two houses and arrested nine suspects.
The remaining six also have been arrested, authorities said. Most of the 15 suspects were said to be Fauquier residents.
The investigation involved the purchase of what was believed to be crack cocaine for more than $30,000, Higgs said.
Chase Ends in Crash; 3 Injured
Three people were injured yesterday after a vehicle being pursued by Montgomery County police collided with two others in the Hillandale and White Oak area, police said.
The chase began near the White Oak shopping center after police spotted a man getting into a car with improper tags, authorities said. At Route 29 and Cherry Hill Road, the car went out of control and collided with the other two, police said.
The driver of the car that was being pursued was critically injured and taken to a hospital, police said.
Police said one of the other two drivers was being treated for back and neck injuries at Holy Cross Hospital, and the second was taken there with minor wrist injuries.
Police said last night that they were investigating the matter.
