Why should the voters elect you?

"Prince William County has grown immensely over the past two decades and it faces demanding issues such as overcrowded schools, unbalanced growth, a decreasing commercial tax base, traffic gridlock, increased crime and the highest property tax rate of any county in Virginia. I share our citizens' concerns about the future and will promote new strategies and an increased focus on better schools, balanced growth and elevating our quality of life, with a strong emphasis on attracting new businesses that will allow citizens to live and work in Prince William. We will not get a second chance to get things right."

What would you like voters to know about you?

"I am father, husband, commuter, attorney and reserve naval officer. Prince William is a county that works. Our citizens deserve better from their government."

Robert K. McBride (Libertarian)

Age: 42.

Residence: Woodbridge.

Education: Attended College of William and Mary and Radford University.

Occupation: Senior systems analyst, TROY Systems, Inc.

Elected offices/civic activities: Board member, Riverview Terrace Homeowners Association; attendee, Prince William County Leadership Institute; tutor, Fairfax County Public Schools; volunteer, Catholic Diocese Refugee Resettlement Agency; volunteer, neighborhood watch.

Family: Married.

Why should the voters elect you?

"The citizens of the county need fresh faces and new voices on the board of supervisors. We need a chairman who is fair and independent, rather than one who takes the sides of Democrats or Republicans for purely political reasons. We deserve a chairman who won't forget that it's not 'county dollars' that the board is spending, but the dollars of hard-working and overtaxed citizens. We must have a chairman that respects the rights and property of all county residents, even when that makes it inconvenient for government authorities to pursue their plans."

What would you like voters to know about you?

"I'm not a professional politician. I'm just an average guy who is concerned about the county government's behavior and its appetite for money and power."
