Robert G. Marshall (R)*

Age: 55.

Residence: Manassas.

Education: BA, Belmont Abbey College; MA, California State University at Dominguez Hills.

Occupation: Research consultant.

Elected offices/civic activities: Member, House of Delegates since 1992; member, Gainesville Railroad Realignment Committee.

Family: Married; five children.

Why should the voters elect you?

"Helping constituents has been my first priority since I was elected in 1991. My annual newsletters keep citizens informed of the work of the General Assembly. I have worked for practical solutions to transportation problems. We now receive more road transit money than when I was first elected--all without tax increases. I have successfully worked to reduce the number of students per class. I have consistently opposed tax increases and voted to reduce the car tax. I have worked for laws that support working families and respect for life."

What would you like voters to know about you?

"I want voters to know they can always reach me for help or answers at home (703-368-6306); on voice mail (703-866-7177); or at work (703-361-5416)."

Denise M. Oppenhagen (D)

Age: 36.

Residence: Lake Ridge.

Education: BA, MA, political science, Texas A&M University; BS, nursing, George Mason University.

Occupation: Registered nurse, Prince William Hospital.

Elected offices/civic activities: Volunteer and PTO member, Springwoods Elementary School; commissioner of government affairs, District 8, Virginia Nurses Association; member, American Association of University Women.

Family: Married; one child.

Why should the voters elect you?

"I have a positive agenda that represents what the voters of Prince William care about--stronger, safer public schools, which includes protecting our children by fighting against my opponent's efforts to allow guns on school property; stopping gridlock by providing resources and better planning; ensuring that all Virginians have access to quality health care; and reducing the tax burden on hard-working Virginia families by eliminating the sales tax on food. My opponent has neglected these issues and instead has demonstrated his distrust of us by focusing on putting a government bureaucrat at our kitchen table to control personal family decisions."

What would you like voters to know about you?

"I am a proud mother, wife and registered nurse. I am delighted to be the first nurse to run for the General Assembly."
