Why should the voters elect you?

"Believing in high academic standards, I have worked to bring a rigorous curriculum into Braddock District high schools. Robinson and Woodson have international baccalaureate programs. Annandale began a pre-IB program this fall, with plans to initiate the IB program in two years. Lake Braddock has an Advanced Placement diploma program. I also worked to reduce class size, expedite the renovation of older schools, bring more technology into classrooms and establish measurable achievement goals for the school system. I made our schools safer by enforcing zero tolerance for drugs and weapons and removing disruptive students from classrooms."

Judith T. 'Tessie' Wilson

Age: 50.

Residence: Fairfax.

Education: BA, American University.

Occupation: Self-employed accountant.

Elected offices/civic activities: Member, Superintendent's Advisory Council; treasurer, Robinson Secondary PTSA; member, Fairfax County Scholarship Steering Committee; Leadership Fairfax; co-founder, Bonnie Brae Youth Council.

Family: Married; two children.

Why should the voters elect you?

"All of the candidates stand for increased student achievement, safe schools, adequate funding, eliminating the gap in minority scores, etc. We are all committed to public education. Granted, we do see different ways to achieve those goals. But parents and taxpayers want more. They want elected officials who will talk to them and relate to the special concerns they have about their own issues. Having been an active participant in the schools and the community, I pledge to work with all constituents, those with and without children, to see that our goals are met and the concerns addressed."

What would you like voters to know about you?

"A first-generation American, my parents realized the American dream by stressing the importance of education and the need to 'give back' to their community."
