William D. 'Bill' Bogard (I)

Age: 47.

Residence: Sterling.

Education: BA, Washington and Jefferson College; MS, University of South California.

Occupation: Staffing manager, Unisys Corp.

Elected offices/civic activities: Chairman, Loudoun County Telecommunications Committee; participant, adequate public facilities ordinance petition drive, Sustainable Loudoun Network; board member, local homeowners association.

Family: Married; two children.

Why should the voters elect you?

"Voters should elect me because I am the candidate best qualified to represent their interests. I am running as an independent because I believe we should be focused on what is best for Loudoun County. My campaign is not accepting contributions from developers. Developer money has unfairly influenced and tainted past decisions by the Board of Supervisors. This practice must end. We must manage and control our growth rate. I have advocated this position before the board and in Richmond. Unlike others, this is not an issue that I have recently picked up because it is popular."

What would you like voters to know about you?

"I am not accepting money from developers. I own my home, and my children have attended Loudoun County public schools."

Bernard J. 'Bernie' Way (R)

Age: 41.

Residence: Sterling.

Education: BA, University of the Pacific; MA, Monterey Institute of International Studies; MA, Georgetown University; PhD, Boston University.

Occupation: Assistant professor, Christendom College.

Elected offices/civic activities: Loudoun County planning commissioner, Sugarland Run District; former at-large member, Loudoun County Historic District Review Committee; member, former Sugarland Run chairman, Loudoun County Republican Committee.

Family: Married; two children.

Why should the voters elect you?

"As a concerned resident of the Sugarland Run District, if elected I will work diligently for the taxpayers of my district. We need a representative who will strive to limit tax increases, alleviate traffic congestion, work for quality education, preserve Loudoun's history and make county government accountable for its spending. As planning commissioner, I have been accessible to the residents, and as supervisor I will continue to assist them with their concerns."

What would you like voters to know about you?

"I firmly believe that elected officials and government bureaucrats are servants of the people. Officials must be responsive to the taxpayers, and elected officials must remember who has elected them to office."
