Help With Home Heating Bills Offered

Beginning Monday, elderly, disabled and low-income residents can apply for assistance with their home heating bills through Montgomery County's Maryland Energy Assistance Program.

Applications may be picked up at the Department of Health and Human Services, 1301 Piccard Dr., Rockville; the department's offices at the Upcounty Regional Services Center, 12900 Middlebrook Rd., Germantown; and the Silver Spring Center, 8818 Georgia Ave. Applications for energy assistance benefits will be accepted until March 31.

The program offers a one-time payment to the utility or fuel supplier for eligible households.

A completed energy assistance form may also qualify an applicant for the Weatherization Assistance Program, which seeks to improve a home's fuel efficiency, and the Utility Service Protection Program, which protects households from utility cutoffs by setting a monthly payment plan.
