Best Draw: Gwynn Park. The Yellow Jackets avoid a possible matchup with No. 5 Centennial, a Howard County power that has won seven state titles, until the 2A South Region final.
Worst Draw: Bowie. The 4A county champion is rewarded with a first-round game against High Point and a potential meeting with Eleanor Roosevelt in the 4A South quarterfinals.
Best matchup: Bowie vs. Eleanor Roosevelt, 4A South quarterfinals. If Bowie can beat High Point in the first round, the Bulldogs will face Eleanor Roosevelt for the third time this season. Bowie won the previous two meetings.
Favorites: Eleanor Roosevelt in 4A South. Only one county team has beaten Eleanor Roosevelt this fall--Bowie--and the Raiders will have time to prepare for a possible rematch in the quarterfinals. No. 7 River Hill, which plays Bladensburg in the first round, should win the 3A East. In the 2A South, Centennial and Gwynn Park should meet in the final.
Sleeper: Northwestern. The Wildcats have not won a playoff match in three years, but that should change this fall. Northwestern faces Oxon Hill in the first round, and a victory would put the Wildcats into the 4A South Region semifinals, most likely against Bowie or Roosevelt.
