Center to Aid Homeless Opens
The Arlington Street People's Assistance Network (A-SPAN) last month opened Opportunity Place, a center to help homeless people find jobs and housing. The center is at 2708B S. Nelson St.
Founded in 1991, A-SPAN is a volunteer-based organization that seeks to help the homeless and to increase awareness of homelessness. Its programs include street outreach, case management and employment services, such as job training and placement.
The center allows A-SPAN to offer mail and telephone services and laundry, restroom and shower facilities to the homeless during daytime hours.

Check DMV Online Before Visiting
Car owners can now check the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles Web site to determine the best time to visit a customer service center.
The site, at www.dmv.state.va.us, has information on current wait times for all 73 offices. The site also gives information on what time of day, week or month is best at each office.
"Typically, the least busy times are in the middle of the day, in the middle of the week, in the middle of the month," DMV Commissioner Richard D. Holcomb said in a statement.
Directions, office hours and location information are also available for each office.
