Air Force Major

Sean H. Doran, 40, an Air Force major who was an intelligence officer with the National Imagery and Mapping Agency in Reston, died Nov. 4 in Grand Cayman in the Cayman Islands. He lived in Potomac Falls, Va.

A family spokesman said Maj. Doran, who was on his honeymoon, died in an apparent drowning.

A spokesman for the Royal Cayman Islands Police reported that Maj. Doran's body was recovered from the North Sound and that the official cause of death had not been determined by the coroner's office.

Maj. Doran, who had been stationed in the Washington area the past five years, was born in St. Louis and reared in Overland Park, Kan.

He was a 1981 electrical engineering honors graduate of the University of Notre Dame.

Maj. Doran received a master's degree in electrical engineering from the University of Illinois.

He spent much of his 18-year Air Force career dealing with weapons development and evaluation issues.

In addition to serving in this country, Maj. Doran had served with the U.S. on-site inspection team in Russia in support of SALT agreements. Before joining NIMA last year, he had served with the CIA.

Maj. Doran was a member of Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church in Sterling. His hobbies included golf and supporting the "Fighting Irish" teams of Notre Dame.

Survivors include his wife, the former Carolyn Bothwell, whom he married Oct. 30, and a stepson, Philip Bothwell, both of Potomac Falls; his mother, Mary Louise Doran of Overland Park; a brother; and two sisters.
