Tuesday Is Deadline for Vehicle Decals

Loudoun County Treasurer H. Roger Zurn Jr. reminds taxpayers that decals for 2000 must be displayed on all vehicles after midnight tomorrow.

The new decals are blue and may be purchased at the County Government Center at 1 Harrison St. SE in Leesburg or at the county's eastern Loudoun office at 21400 Ridgetop Circle. Both offices will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. to accommodate last-minute purchasers.

Christmas in April Seeking Those in Need

Nov. 30 is the deadline to apply for next year's Christmas in April, a program that provides housing repairs for those who can't afford them.

If you or someone you know needs help, call 703-771-7186 and a Christmas in April board member will contact you. The program still needs sponsors and volunteers; call the same number for information or to sign up.

Meanwhile, five new members have been added to the organization's board of directors: Peter Burnett, Mary Gail Swensen, Lisa Jusino, Joanne Banghaf and Brian Lantz.

Program to Replant Christmas Trees

The Loudoun County Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Services is offering an alternative to cutting down Christmas trees this season with a program to replant live trees.

The Christmas trees, with their roots balled and burlapped, can be donated to the county for planting at the county park of your choice after the holiday. Call Jim Compher at 703-777-0345 for more information or to schedule pickup and planting of your live tree, stripped of its decorations.

Get Free Legal Help on 'No Bills Night'

Area residents may consult with lawyers free during a special call-in program from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Dec. 2.

"No Bills Night," sponsored by the Young Lawyers Conference of the Virginia State Bar, will offer free and confidential 10-minute telephone consultations with lawyers. The phone number is 703-903-9000.

The lawyers will try to identify the caller's specific legal problem and suggest possible ways to solve it. Lawyers from across the region will participate in the program, which will be held at the firm of Miles & Stockbridge in McLean.
