St. Mary's County sheriff's deputies are investigating two traffic accidents that resulted in fatalities last week at the same intersection in Charlotte Hall, the sheriff's office said.
A Golden Beach man died after a traffic collision at the intersection of Route 5 and Golden Beach Road Thursday night after he failed to stop at a traffic light, the sheriff's office said. Jeffrey David Cain, 35, was driving south on Route 5 when he did not slow to stop at the traffic signal, running into the back of another vehicle.
Cain was transported to Prince George's Hospital Center, where he later died. The driver of the other vehicle, Julie Ann Potter, was taken to Civista Medical Center in La Plata, where she was treated and released.
An Anne Arundel County man died last weekend from a heart attack suffered after a car accident at the same Charlotte Hall intersection, the sheriff's office said.
Charles Frederick Creek, 65, was a passenger in a truck driven by a Chesapeake Beach woman who was trying to make a U-turn on Route 5. The woman struck the side of a northbound car driven by Silas Williamson, 58, of La Plata. Creek apparently suffered a heart attack shortly after the collision and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the sheriff's office.
Margaret Cook, 54, the driver of the truck in which Creek was riding, was not injured. Williamson was taken to Civista Medical Center, where he was treated for injuries and released. Police were still investigating the cause of the second accident.
