Coach: Tony Lisanti, third year.
Last season: 13-10, 8-8.
Outlook: After winning seven games in 1997 and 13 last season, Coach Tony Lisanti says he believes the rebuilding process is over, and the Braves have a legitimate shot at winning their first SMAC title since 1975.
"When I first started here, I believe we had an eye toward this season," he said.
Chopticon is one of the conference's most experienced teams, as junior point guard Tia Briscoe (9 ppg and a school-record 110 assists), junior shooting guard Shonta Countiss (10 ppg), senior center Crystal Herbert (8 ppg, 9 rpg) and senior forward Jessica Ritchey (13 ppg) will be playing their third year of varsity ball together.
"This year we have a lot of diversity," Lisanti said. "We have players who can score, play defense, pass and just do all the things you have to do to win games."
Offensively, look for Briscoe, one of the conference's best ball-handlers, to use her speed to draw defenders to her, which should free up Ritchey and Countiss, who have the ability to connect from all over the court.
Defensively, the Braves will use their quickness, specifically that of Countiss, to create turnovers and turn them into easy layups.
