Coach: Chris Hodge, first year.
Last season: 3-20, 2-14.
Outlook: Playing under its third new head coach in as many seasons, the Patuxent girls basketball team will continue to rebuild in 1999-2000. The new coach is Chris Hodge, who replaces Aimee Fellows. Hodge was an assistant on Patuxent's boys varsity team last season but also has worked as the girls head coach at Randallstown High in Baltimore.
Patuxent is in its third year as a varsity program; the Panthers have won a total of four games in their first two seasons. This season, the Panthers have two juniors and no seniors; of the four freshman on the team, Hodge says three--guards Meghan Robinson and Ashley Howell and center Margo Shisler--are likely to start.
The Panthers averaged about 20 points per game last season, but Hodge said he hopes an up-tempo, pressing style will lead to points off turnovers and higher-scoring games.
"It's taken a while, but the girls are starting to better understand my philosophy and what it is I expect from them," Hodge said. "Obviously this is going to be another rebuilding year for us, but we'll continue to work hard."
