FAUQUIER FALCONS

* Last season: 15-8, Northwestern District.

* Coach: Rolando Bell (second season, 15-8).

* Top returning players: F Katie Moore, Jr., F Claire Downey, Sr.

* Key departures: G Tera Walker, (21.5 ppg, All-Extra Player of the Year); F Abbey Broswick.

Bell had it easy his first year coaching the Falcons' girls' varsity--sit back and give the ball to point guard Walker. Now that Walker and her sidekick Abbey Broswick have graduated, Bell has to revamp his game plan. "We have to play a lot more team ball than in the past," Bell said. "There's no one person to rely on anymore."

Walker's scoring load will be shouldered by a pair of forwards: Moore, a varsity player since her freshman year at Fauquier, and Downey. Expect the Falcons to become more of a half-court team because they lack a strong perimeter game.

But Walker's departure hurts the Falcons most in the ballhandling department. Bell will use a point-guard-by-committee unless someone steps up. But until then, turnovers will be a major problem for Fauquier.

Note: Coaching staff did not furnish schedule before press time.

CAPTION: Junior forward Katie Moore, center, will shoulder much of the scoring burden for Fauquier High School, following the graduations of All-Extra point guard Tera Walker and forward Abbey Broswick. The Falcons posted a 15-8 record last year under first-year coach Rolando Bell.
