The Matchups Ahead
* Lamar Butler and Phil Goss, Oxon Hill, vs. Edward Basden and Delonte West, Eleanor Roosevelt.
Four of the county's top juniors--all of whom play on the wing--square off against each other Friday at 7:15 p.m. at Oxon Hill. Butler and Goss, both 6 feet 2, combined for 39 points in the Clippers' season-opening win over Newport School and 19 points in Friday's 61-45 win over Central. The 6-5 Basden scored 33 points in Roosevelt's 59-52 loss to Central on Saturday; West was scheduled to make his season debut in yesterday's game at Bladensburg.
* Candace Sutton, Largo, vs. Rebekkah Brunson, Oxon Hill.
Sutton, a 6-5 All-Met center who has signed with North Carolina, and Brunson, a 6-2 forward who has signed with Georgetown, are two of the Washington area's best players. They take the court Tuesday at 7:15 p.m. at Oxon Hill.
Brunson is a terrific rebounder and defender. In Friday's 57-29 win over Central, she scored only five points but had 16 rebounds. Sutton, who had been sidelined with a sprained ankle, made her first appearance in the Lions' 66-61 win over St. Frances (Balt.) on Friday. She scored seven points and blocked three shots in limited playing time.
