Loudoun Times-Mirror Tournament

When: Tomorrow through Wednesday.

Where: Park View High School.

Participants: Boys basketball teams from Broad Run, Loudoun County, Loudoun Valley, Park View, Potomac Falls, Armstrong (Richmond), Covenant of Life (Gaithersburg, Md.), Sherando.

Notable: Sherando eked out a 42-40 victory over Park View last year to become the first non-Loudoun team to win the title in the event's 19-year history. The Patriots have won this tournament six times and are a strong favorite to return to the title game for the fourth consecutive year. Loudoun Valley, the third-place team last year, is undefeated (5-0) after narrowly escaping with a two-point victory last week over upstart Broad Run (3-3). Armstrong and Loudoun County are both winless this season.

Fauquier Times-Democrat Tournament

When: Tuesday through Thursday.

Where: Fauquier High School.

Participants: Boys basketball teams from Brentsville, Brooke Point, Fauquier, Highland, Liberty, Spotsylvania, Stafford.

Notable: This tournament expands from four to seven teams, with the host Falcons being the beneficiary of the uneven bracket--a first-round bye. Not that they need any help; Fauquier has won this tournament the past three years. Liberty won its only game last season in this tournament but is off to a 4-3 start thanks to the outside shooting of Patrick Moore and Tevin Venia.

Chapel Hill Men's Tiger Holiday Classic

When: Tomorrow through Wednesday.

Where: Chapel Hill (N.C.) High School.

Participants: Boys basketball teams from Notre Dame Academy (regional), Woodbridge, Cary High School (N.C.), Southeast Raleigh (N.C.), Word of God Christian Academy (N.C.), Jordan (N.C.), Northern Vance (N.C.), Riverside (N.C.), Charlotte Latin, Archbishop Stepinac (N.Y.), Durham Academy (N.C.), East Mecklenburg (N.C.), Cary Academy (N.C.), Hephzibah (Ga.), Apex (N.C.), Chapel Hill (N.C.).

Notable: North Carolina rules dictate that high schools cannot play more than three games in a week, although each team is guaranteed of playing that many. Thus, there will be a champion from each of the the two eight-team brackets. There's a good chance Notre Dame guard Bobby Weismiller will return from a pulled rib cage muscle, which has kept him out for two weeks. The Dragons (4-5) need him; they have lost three in a row, after losing that many all of last season.

Covenant School Tournament

When: Tuesday and Wednesday.

Where: Covenant School, Charlottesville.

Participants: Girls basketball teams from Notre Dame Academy, Flint Hill, Covenant School, Meadowbrook (Richmond).

Notable: The Dragons' three straight victories to open the season have been offset by a subsequent four-game losing streak. It won't be easy snapping that slump; Covenant and Flint Hill are both ranked among the top 15 in the state.

CAPTION: Marcus Williams could help Fauquier continue its run of victories in the Fauquier Times-Democrat Tournament. The host Falcons have won the tournament the past three years.

CAPTION: Steve Dellinger will be taking a shot at helping undefeated Loudoun Valley improve on last season's third-place finish in the Loudoun Times-Mirror Tournament.
