Forum on 'Green Building'

National and local experts will discuss the benefits and practicality of constructing environmentally sensitive buildings at a public forum on construction and the environment Jan. 26. The forum, sponsored by the Arlington County Board and the Arlington Community Sustainability Roundtable, is called "The Role of Green Building Technology in a Sustainable Community."

Neighborhoods to Meet With Police

Residents of several neighborhoods will be able to raise issues about policing in Arlington County at a community policing meeting sponsored by the police department Jan. 26. Residents of Arlington Ridge, Arna Valley, Aurora Highlands, Crystal City, Long Branch, Pentagon City and Shirley Park/Colonies are invited to attend.

The meeting is at 7:30 p.m. in the meeting hall of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 830 S. 23rd St. For information, call 703-228-4140.

Arts Group Schedules Grant Workshop

The Virginia Commission for the Arts will hold a two-hour grant workshop Jan. 31 to offer information about its grant award programs in preparation for March 1 and April 1 application deadlines. The workshops will address application, review and funding procedures. Application forms and publications will be available.

The Virginia Commission for the Arts is a state agency that supports the arts through funding from the General Assembly and the National Endowment for the Arts. Grants are distributed to artists, arts and other nonprofit organizations, educational institutions, educators and local governments. The agency also provides technical assistance in arts management.

No preregistration is required, and attendance at a workshop is not required to apply for funding. The workshop starts at 11 a.m. at the Arts Council of Fairfax County, 4022 Hummer Rd., Annandale.
