Counseling Center Opens
The Riverside Counseling Center has leased the former office space of Loudoun Hospital's counseling group at the hospital's Lansdowne campus.
The new center is a partnership between former hospital personnel and the Mind, Brain, Behavior Center of Loudoun. The practice has four psychotherapists and several administrative employees but eventually will have 10 therapists for children and adults.
On Feb. 10, the center will offer a luncheon for local pastors to discuss conflicts and cooperation between members of the clergy and psychiatrists. For information, call the center at 703-858-3311.
Realtor Named Panel Officer
Leesburg resident Tom Jewell, broker and owner of Carter Braxton Real Estate Co. in Leesburg, has been named vice chairman of the national Realtors Land Institute's Development Land Committee.
The committee examines alternative uses of land that help preserve open space. Jewell, the original broker for Janelia Farm on Route 7, said he worked with the developers to preserve land around the manor--a possible reason for his selection, he said.
Jewell said the committee is also interested in ways to build more "intense developments" that help preserve land. For example, instead of a sprawling, single-story office building, a company could build a four-story building, leaving the rest of the land open.
Jewell will serve for one year before becoming committee chairman. The institute is part of the National Association of Realtors, based in Chicago.
