Why should the voters elect you?

"To assure that all children are ready to learn, I will work to expand early childhood initiatives and increase availability of all-day kindergarten. Because children are not standardized, instruction must be tailored to unique needs so I will work for well-developed, rigorous curricula that ensure flexibility to meet individual needs, for assessment systems aligned with our curricula and for funding needed for facilities to support quality instruction. I will also work to bring families more actively into education processes by communicating effectively with broader groups of parents and communities, especially when language, economic or cultural barriers exist."

What would you like the voters to know about you?

"Extensive education experience at local and national levels will enable me to champion board efforts to improve communications, revamp curricula and prepare for new assessments."

"All children should have the opportunity to learn using a rigorous curriculum in safe and secure schools. Public/private partnerships pool resources that will provide efficiencies, enabling MCPS to have appropriate monies for the classroom. Adequate training for all staff should be available, providing the best teaching methods for educational excellence. As an experienced community leader in a variety of organizations, with three children in public schools, I am keenly aware of the importance of community participation in solving issues and overseeing the implementation of the solutions; I will bring my skills and my passion to the BOE."
