Jacob G. Hornberger Jr. (I)

Age: 52

Residence: Ashburn.

Education: BA, economics, Virginia Military Institute; law degree, University of Texas.

Occupation: Founder and president, the Future of Freedom Foundation,

Elected offices/civic activities: "When I practiced law in my hometown of Laredo, Texas, I was the ACLU representative in my city and also served on the board of trustees for the local Legal Aid Society, which provided legal services for the poor."

Why should the voters elect you?

"Our country is moving in a wrong direction, both domestically and foreign. Federal spending is out of control, primarily because of the political pork that incumbents use to buy votes with the money they've forced you to send to the IRS. Get government out of the charity and pork business and restore your right to keep your own money and decide what to do with it. End the war on drugs, which is immoral, destructive and racist. Protect civil liberties from the feds. End gun control, including government monitoring of gun purchases. End government's role as international policeman and interloper."

What would you like the voters to know about you?

"Avid cyclist, hiker and diver. Five-day hike in the Grand Canyon. Cycled C&O Canal trail (180 miles). Hawaii night dive with giant manta rays."

Nancy B. Spannaus (I)

Age: 58

Residence: Lovettsville.

Education: AB, Bryn Mawr College; MS, Columbia University School of Social Work.

Occupation: Newspaper, magazine editor for publications associated with the LaRouche political movement; editor in chief, the New Federalist.

Elected offices/civic activities: Author, "Political Economy of the American Revolution"; executive director, FDR Political Action Committee; president, U.S. Club of Life.

Why should the voters elect you?

"I represent Lyndon LaRouche's Road to Recovery; an FDR-style economic recovery, a 'dialogue of cultures,' instead of a Clash of Civilizations war, and a new just financial system, to finance a crash program of infrastructure construction, bringing us millions of productive jobs. Stop the economic breakdown crisis.

I reject the 'American Empire' policy of Dick Cheney and his cabal, and call for a Korea-like peace-through-development policy in the Middle East, to replace Sharon's Warsaw Ghetto horrors. LaRouche was right: The New Economy is dead. So, back his emergency plan to rebuild our rail system -- and vote for me."

What would you like the voters to know about you?

"I follow in the footsteps of Franklin, Lincoln, FDR and LaRouche -- and led the winning battle against Ollie North. I tell the truth."

Residence: Alexandria.

Education: BS, Washington and Lee University; graduate, University of Virginia Law School.

Occupation: Lawyer.

Elected offices/civic activities: Member, U.S. Senate, 1979-present.

Why should the voters elect you?

"In several days, Virginia voters will cast their ballots for U.S. Senate. I'm seeking their support, but not based on what I have done in the past. I want voters to support me based on what I can do for Virginia in the future. I ask for their vote on November 5th so I may continue my work, on their behalf, strengthening the state's economy by securing federal dollars for job creation; improving education for Virginia's children; safeguarding retirement and improving health care for senior citizens; and maintaining our strong national security at home and abroad."

What would you like the voters to know about you?
