Basketball YOUTH REGISTRATION: Calvert County Parks and Recreation is accepting registrations through Nov. 22. Children 9-17 are eligible. Cost: $31 for the first family member and $26 for each additional member. No special requests for team placement will be accepted, siblings will be placed on the same team if they are in the same age group, and no transfer of players is allowed after team selections are made. Lacrosse CLINICS: Saturday clinics continue through Saturday at the Athletic Clubhouse in Waldorf. The clinics are meant to introduce Charles County youths to lacrosse. Running PREDICTION RUN: The sixth annual Prediction Run 5K race to benefit Special Olympics of Maryland and St. Mary's City will be held at 9 a.m. Nov. 23 at the Visitors Center in St. Mary's City. The first 100 registrants will receive an event T-shirt. Runners in seven age groups will win awards, and in the 5K Prediction Run, the top five finishers with the time closest to his or her predicted time also will win awards. TRYOUTS: Southern Maryland Juniors will hold tryouts for girls of all ages Nov. 17 at Northern High School. There is a $300 refundable tryout fee that must be paid at registration. Miscellaneous LA PLATA MEETING: La Plata High School will hold a winter sports preseason meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the auditorium. Students who plan to try out for a winter sport and their parents are strongly encouraged to attend. Topics include eligibility clearance and meeting coaches.

SPEEDWAY BANQUET: Potomac Speedway will hold its 2002 awards banquet at 6 p.m. Nov. 16 at the Mechanicsville Firehouse. There will be a social time, banquet and dancing.
